AUXILIARY

Established 1914, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Auxiliary set out to serve the veterans of this country and our communities in honor of the sacrifices and commitment of every man and woman who has served in uniform. The VFW Auxiliary is one of the nation’s oldest veterans’ service organizations and our members are the relatives of those who have served in overseas combat. We have volunteered millions of hours and fundraised millions of dollars for charitable projects that benefit veterans, military service personnel and their families over our organizations 100 years of existence.

Here are a few ways Auxiliary members across America serve veterans, active-duty military and their families, and their communities:

  • Poppy Drives – We have historically partnered with the MN Twins to accept poppy donations on Buddy Poppy weekends in May.  VFW “Buddy” Poppies are still assembled by disabled and needy veterans in VA Hospitals, providing compensation to the veterans who assemble the poppies. The poppy program also provides financial assistance in maintaining state and national veterans’ rehabilitation and service programs and partially supports the VFW National Home for Children.
  • Veterans and Community Services – Minneapolis
  • Our auxiliary donates time, food, money to various meals and parties to support residents of the MN Veterans Home.  It’s a wonderful way to stay connected and give back!
  • Valentine’s Day – We collect Valentines from 1st and 2nd graders to hand out to the members at our meetings and to those at the MN VA Hospital.
  • Christmas for the Kids
  • Toys for Tots annual campaign
  • CRRC Support – Assembling care packages etc for support of homeless veterans in MPLS proper
  • Veterans Day Support
  • Blood Drives
  • Donations to Unmet Needs
  • National POW/MIA Recognition Day Events
  • Participation in MPLS PRIDE FESTIVAL
  • Youth Sports and Activities
    • We are currently looking for more folks to help volunteer and participate with youth in the community!  Please let us know if you’re interested. We sponsor teams and activities as well – email us for more information auxiliary@uptownvfw.org
